Carbon black is one of the most widely used industrial materials. It is generally obtained as soot from the partial combustion of hydrocarbons.
Its main areas of use can be listed as follows:
- Rubber products including automobile tires
- Printing inks
- Paints and carbon paper
It is also used in protective coatings, plastics and resistors for electronic circuits. As a reinforcing filler, it significantly increases abrasion resistance.
It has a wide range of applications. For example, approximately one-quarter of the weight of a standard automobile tire consists of carbon black. In addition, more carbon black is added to tires used in vehicles such as fuel trucks and hospital carts to ensure electrical conductivity and prevent electrostatic charge buildup.
